What to give someone who already

'has everything' this festive season

Plus a quick history of bags

Well Christmas is nearly upon us, again! And each year I remind myself to be more organised with presents the next time round. Usually I know what to get my very close friends and family, but what do you get for that person who already seems to 'have everything?'

The answer to this question, it might be easier to ask a different question: "What does everyone need?" Besides the obvious like food and water, we all need to wear clothes but buying clothes for someone is hard work as we may not be sure of fit, size and style. And if clothes don't fit, they are likely to end up donated to thrift shops where they may never get purchased. And if they don't, they are shipped overseas or put straight into landfill, often taking many many years (or never in the case of polyesters) to decompose.

Besides clothes, another thing that everyone needs is some form of bag. Bags have been used by humans for thousands of years. Early bags, like the one shown on the carving below from ancient Egypt were made from natural materials like animal hides or plant materials...

Bags from China, like this beautiful ornate pouch showing boys at play and exhibited at The Met museum, were typically made from silk..

Nowadays, all you have to do is step outside your front door and nearly everyone you see will be carrying some type of bag. The need for bags transcends gender, culture race or age. Quite simply, we as humans, need and love bags!

As such, the person you'd like to buy a bag for probably has bags already. But it's fairly unlikely they'll have a bag that is entirely unique, handmade locally or is environmentally sustainable. It's a great thing that we are now in a position to make more conscious choices that do not have negative impacts on the people who make the bags and the environment. This is because there are a whole range of slow fashion brands and local enterprises that craft beautiful bags that do not leave an impact on the planet, and sometimes, even help to reduce issues like waste and pollution.

The bags I make are from unwanted denim and remnant fabric, so each one is handmade and unique. And because they're made from denim, and denim goes with everything, you can rest assured that if you give someone a denim bag, they will probably find ways to incorporate it into their daily lives and outfits. I'm also offering a sale on selected bags and pouches so you can grab bargain on some gifts! I've also got new makes in stock, like funky waist packs and clip-on pouches which are small and lightweight and perfect for the essentials.

Be sure to purchase before 25th November to receive it before Christmas (as I'll be overseas for the month before Christmas visiting my mum so 25th November is the last day I can post). As ever, shipping over $80 is free and all bags are shipped via Australia Post tracked parcel. Thank you for your support, and happy (soon to be) holidays!
